1. Outline

  • Aims and Scope of the School
    • The “IBRO-APRC Advanced School” aims to provide an opportunity for young researchers in the Asia-Pacific region to accumulate advanced knowledge and techniques on various aspects of functional brain mapping through special lectures and hands-on practice encompassing cell types in brain, neural circuits, and synaptic characteristics. It also helps participants to establish a research and social network of their peers.
  • Description
    • The “IBRO-APRC Advanced School” will provide an interactive platform for young aspiring neuroscientists(Ph.D students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior researchers) in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss and promote their understanding of brain functions including cellular mechanisms, synaptic connections, and dynamic patterns of activity in vivo during behavior. Focusing on “Functional Brain Mapping with Advanced Neurotechnologies”, the lectures will cover the following topics:
      • Synapses and 3D reconstruction
※ Super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, 3D reconstruction from multiple images
      • Optogenetics & behaviors
※ Optogenetics & In vivo imaging
      • Whole cell patch clamp recordings
      • Fluorescence-activated cell sorting
      • Survival surgery with tracing markers
      • In utero electroporation
      • Transcriptome analysis
      • Chromatin Immunoprecipitation
      • Fruitfly behavior etc
    • Moreover, there will be a special lecture on neuroethics, a recently modernized field at the intersection of bioethics and neuroscience.
In addition to the lectures, special emphasis will be placed on hands-on practice of advanced brain research techniques to map the functional brain such as application of in vivo imaging, survival surgery with tracing markers, optogenetics & behaviors, etc. Those beneficial programs will enable participants to acquire new ideas and to learn new techniques and methods that may be helpful to their future research.
